Jam session scheduled
A country music jam session will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Northern Senior Activity Center in Charlotte Hall. Those who play are invited to bring their instrument, just come to listen. There is a $2 fee.
Market coupons available
To participate in the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, applicants must provide documentation of being 60 or older and documentation of Maryland residence, such as a Maryland license or MVA identification card, and documentation of participation in one of the following means-tested programs — Medicaid, Food Stamp Program, Supplemental Security Income, Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Program, Special Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary Program, Primary Adult Care Program, Extra Help with Medicare D Prescription Drug Program, Senior Employment Program (Title V), Foster Grandparents Program, Maryland Energy Assistance Program, Electrical Universal Service Program — or applicant has applied for one of the above programs through Senior I&A. Senior I&A must provide confirmation of application.

Northern offers newsand biscuits and sausage
On Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 9 a.m., biscuits and sausage will be served for a breakfast break at the Northern Senior Activity Center. There is a $1 fee at sign-up, which is required 24 hours in advance.

Meditation introduced
During a four-week class on meditation at the Garvey Senior Activity Center, Helen Barnett will teach techniques of Chakra meditation. Chakra meditation is supposed to help its practitioners restore and maintain health and balance as well as increase ability to focus. The class will meet Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26 from 11 a.m. to noon. Preregister by calling Brandy at 301-475-4200, ext. 1062. Cost is $20 for the four-week class.
Open art studio set
Area seniors are invited to bring their paints, brushes and drawing pencils and pads to the Garvey Senior Activity Center on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 12:30 p.m. The open art studio is designed to be a studio away from home — no phones ringing, dogs barking or television distraction, just quiet time to work on your most recent project with others who have similar interests. Celebrating femalelighthouse keepers
On Thursday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Northern Senior Activity Center, the Hands-on-History series will feature lady lighthouse keepers. Many women were hired by the federal government to manage lighthouses. This program will discuss how women entered the profession at the Piney Point and Blackistone lighthouses.
Loffler staff to prepare lunch
The Loffler Senior Activity Center will have another staff-prepared lunch on Tuesday, Aug. 12. On the menu is pulled pork barbecue sandwich, slaw, roasted veggies and baked pear with caramel sauce. Cost of this meal is $4 for people younger than 60 and by donation for those 60 and older. To reserve a place at the table, call 301-737-5670, ext. 1658, by Aug. 5.
EnhanceFitness to meets
EnhanceFitness exercise class is designed to improve balance, flexibility, bone density, endurance, coordination, strength and decrease risk of falling. The class includes a 20-minute cardiovascular workout of a low to moderate impact. Classes are taught by certified fitness instructors. Fee is $30 for 10 classes. Classes are held at the Northern Senior Activity Center on Mondays at 10:30 a.m., Thursdays at 2 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m.
Wii bowling continues
Area seniors are encouraged to surprise their grandchildren with a quick stop at the Northern Senior Activity Center for Wii fun during summertime get-togethers.
Each great⁄grandparent with their great⁄grandchild forms a two-person team and bowls a game from Monday through Friday anytime between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., up through Aug. 22. Team total scores will be posted and compared against others. Sign in at the front desk for each visit. Call 301-475-4002, ext. 1002.
Bowling teams forming
Teams will be forming soon for those interested in being in the mixed senior bowling league. Games are played on the second and fourth Thursday of each month and run from September through May at Esperanza Bowling Lanes.

Decorators needed
The Loffler Senior Activity Center needs carpenter volunteers for simple decorating projects. Someone is needed to design and make a base for tubes that will be decorated to look like pillars.
