Vacation Bible schools planned

Blessed Redeemer Baptist Church will be hosting vacation Bible school 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 9. The church is located in the Roofing by George building on Brett Way in Mechanicsville. All children 4 to 12 are invited.

Good Shepherdto hold dinner

Good Shepherd United Methodist ChurchÊwill hold a covered-dish supper for all members and friends of the congregation from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Aug 13 in the church’s fellowship hall.

There will be a discussion of the church’s history and future plans for continuing on the path as a community of faith.

Open house planned

Alexandria Chapel United Methodist Church will hold an open house from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 16 to introduce its Autumn House Ministry. The mission of the ministry is to enhance the quality of life of senior citizens by assisting them in maintaining their involvement and productivity in the community, providing them with activities and fellowship once a month at the Alexandria Chapel United Methodist Fellowship Hall located at 5061 Chicamuxen Road, Indian Head. Outreach day set

Golf tournament set

Metropolitan-Indian Head United Methodist Cooperative Parish will hold a golf tournament from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at Langston Golf Course at 28th Street and Benning Road in Washington, D.C.

It will be a captain’s choice, four-person best ball tournament featuring a variety of prizes including a new car giveaway.

Prayer breakfastplanned Sept. 13

Ministers Alliance of Charles County and Vicinity will sponsor its annual prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 13 at Metropolitan United Methodist Church at 3385 Metropolitan Church Road, Indian Head.

The cost is $20 per person, free for children 5 and younger. The guest speaker will be Pastor Johnny Calhoun, president of the Annapolis Interdenominational Ministers Alliance.

Free religionclasses to be taught

Free education classes will be held at Sacred Heart Church in La Plata beginning in October.

Topics to be discussed include the meaning and purpose of life, why is there suffering in the world, is there really a heaven and a hell, what is prayer and why do we have to pray, does God really love sinners, how important am I in the scheme of things and many other topics of interest.

Classes prepare a person to enter the Roman Catholic Church and⁄or to broaden their outlook on the mystery of life and death.

Classes are taught by ordained ministers (priests and deacons). All classes are based on Holy Scripture and the tradition of the Apostles and open to both Catholics and non-Catholics with no obligation or fees.
