DNR’s gem dandy of a contest

Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Service Director Tom O'Connell releases one of the potential Diamond Jim rockfish into the Patuxent River Thursday near the Gov. Thomas Johnson Memorial Bridge in Solomons. The DNR released 21 striped bass (rockfish) with special tags, one of which is Diamond Jim and is worth $25,000 in cash from Boater's World and a $5,000 diamond from Smyth Jewelers. The 2008 Maryland Fishing Challenge ends on Labor Day.

Time running out in search of $25,000 Diamond Jim rockfish

He’s out there. He could be swimming a few feet from the Solomons pier or he could be half a mile off North Beach. He could be halfway up the Patuxent River or he could be at the bottom of the shipping channel off Parker’s Creek.

‘Canes reaction to new coach? Soper!

Huntingtown has fielded a formidable girls soccer team the last few years and the school will try to continue to do so after Rob Soper was named the program’s third coach in mid-June.

Changes in the air

It’s all smooth sailing

Last year, Zaraffa, a boat manned by sailors from the United States Naval Academy, finished with the fastest time at the Governor’s Cup, completing the overnight trek in a little over 11 hours.
