Volleyball camp

Charles County Parks and Recreation will hold a juniors volleyball camp from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 6 to 10 at Thomas Stone High School.

La Plata High School head volleyball coach Catherine Lavery, who is also a former head coach at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Towson University, will provide professional instruction to intermediate and beginner volleyball players 10 to 18.

Blue Knights need coaches

The La Plata Blue Knights are looking for coaching staffs (head and assistant coaches) for its No. 2 90-pound team.

Little Eagles Basketball Camp

The Little Eagles Coed Basketball Camp will be held at North Point High School in two sessions, July 6 to 10 and July 13 to 17. The camps will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

The camp is for children 6 to 13 and structured to teach the fundamentals of the game of basketball. The cost is $200 for one session and $250 for both sessions.

The camp accepts cash or checks only. Checks should be made out to North Point High School, Little Eagles Basketball Camp and all registration forms should be mailed to North Point High School, 2500 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603, Attn: Jimmy Ball.

Charles County Parks and Recreation will hold the 2009 Tightline Basketball Summer Camp at Thomas Stone High School for children ages 9 to 17 from 9 to 4 p.m. July 13 to 17. The cost for residents and nonresidents is $155.

The Southern Maryland Youth Association Hawks seeks coaches and assistants for its youth tackle football and cheerleader programs.

Westlake High School, in association with United Soccer Academy, announces its annual soccer camp for boys and girls ages 8 to 18 at the school, from 5 to 8 p.m. July 27 to July 31.

The cost of the camp is $139 and the fees include a camp T-shirt, soccer ball and an individual player evaluation.

School system offers summer physicals for students

Charles County Public Schools is offering sports physicals this summer to student athletes. Physicals will be limited to the first 100 students and are done on a first-come, first-served basis. The dates and locations are as follows:

Henry E. Lackey High School, 5-7 p.m. Aug. 4.

La Plata High School, 5-7 p.m. Aug. 10.

North Point High School, 9 a.m.-noon Aug. 8.

Thomas Stone High School, 5-7 p.m. Aug. 11.

Westlake High School, 5-7 p.m. Aug. 7.

To sign up, students should contact the athletic director at their home school to reserve their time and obtain the physical form. The parent section of the form must be completed and signed by the parent/guardian.

The fee is $25 and cash is the only accepted form of payment.
