The Charles County Sheriff's Office will apply for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant through the U.S. Department of Justice.
The grant provides local governments with funding for a range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs and conditions.
JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system, from multijurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections and information sharing initiatives.
The sheriff's office is eligible for $86,893 through the grant.
Citizens can review the application. Call R. Jack Hurd at 301-609-6544. All comments should be made by July 21.
