John Michael Galt, 55, Port Charlotte, Fla.

John Michael "Mike" Galt, 55, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Suitland, Lusby, and Waldorf, died June 23, 2009, when he was struck by a car June 22, 2009.

Born Aug. 7, 1953, in Denver, Colo., he was the oldest son of Phyllis and the late John W. Galt.

He graduated from Suitland Senior High School in 1971. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971-1974, when he was honorably discharged with service-connected disability. He was stationed in Eglin AFB, Fla., and Rhein Main AB, Germany. He attended Prince George's Community College and Towson State University majoring in business administration. He was an avid poet and artist, with many published pieces of work. He loved music of all kinds, but especially The Beatles.

He loved and was devoted to his wife, Amelia "Sissy" Galt, who preceded him in death on April 28, 2009.

He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Galt; mother-in-law, Frances Louise Hager; sisters, Karen Mueller and her husband, David, Patricia Dickens and her husband, George M., Terry Mathers and her husband, Thomas, and Judy Stiver and her husband, Kenneth; brother, William "Skip" Galt and his wife, Deb; 10 nieces and nephews; and 15 great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at noon on July 13 at Cross County Baptist Church in Waldorf. The Rev. George Dickens will officiate. Burial will take place for he and his wife, Sissy, at 2 p.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham.
