James Patrick "Skip" McDermott Jr., 78, a long-time resident of Huntingtown, died June 26, 2009.
He was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Takoma Park to James Patrick Sr. and Marguerite Preusser McDermott. He was retired from Wonder Bread Bakery where he worked as a driver and salesman.
He was a history buff and was especially interested in the Civil War and World War II. He was an avid Redskins football and Nationals baseball fan.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Donahue.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Patty McDermott. He is also survived by his daughter, Laura Harrington and her husband Daniel of North Beach; son, James P. "Jimmy" McDermott III of Huntingtown; sister, Patricia McLane of Solomons; granddaughters, Patricia Mason and husband Mike of Lusby, and Danielle Kapaska and husband Shawn of Chesapeake Beach; and great-grandson, Michael James Mason of Lusby.
Friends were received June 29 at Rausch Funeral Home in Owings. Services were held June 30 at Southern Memorial Gardens Peace Chapel followed by entombment in the chapel mausoleum. The Rev. Gary Fruik officiated.
