Baseball
The Hughesville Baseball Association will be holding fall registration for players ages 5 to 16 for all divisions from T-Ball to seniors. Age is based on next year’s playing age.
The registrations will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13 and 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 16 at the Hughesville Firehouse.
The fee is $50 and games will be played from mid-September until the end of October.

La Plata Legion Post 82 will have fall ball tryouts at 5 p.m. Aug. 24 and 26 at La Plata HighSchool.Ê
Any students attending La Plata, Lackey or McDonough high schools and live closer to La Plata High School than Thomas Stone High School are all eligible to tryout.Ê

A Southern Maryland 14-U travel baseball team is in the process of being put together for this fall and next spring. Tryouts will be held in the next few weeks.

The Southern Maryland Youth NFL Flag Football League will be hosting the official NFL Pass, Punt, and Kick competition Aug. 23 at Wade Elementary in Waldorf. Participation for this event is free and open to the public. You do not have to be a league member to participate. Participants must be ages 8 to 15 as of Dec. 3, 2008 and is open to both boys and girls.

The Northern Soccer League will be conducting walk-in registration for the fall season from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 9, 16 at the Mechanicsville and Leonardtown fire houses. The cost is $45 and $30 for each additional familyÊmember.
Teams are fielded for all ages from 4 years oldÊthrough adult.ÊThe adult division will be separated into recreational and competitive sub divisions.

Softball
The Bayside Blues fastpitch softball organization is sponsoring free softball clinics for all girls ages 7 to 14.
A clinic on pitching and hitting fundamentals will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at Northern High School.
A clinic on throwing and fielding mechanics will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 16 at Northern High School.
Instruction will be provided by current college players.

Tryouts for the Southern Maryland Ospreys will take place Aug. 10 and 17 at John Lancaster Park in Lexington Park.
10-U and 12-U tryouts will be from noon to 2 p.m., while 14-U, 16-U and 18-U tryouts will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Southern Maryland Shockers, a fastpitch travel softball team will be holding tryouts from 2 to 4 p.m. (12-U, 14-U) and 4 to 6 p.m. (10-U) on Aug. 17 and 24 and from 10 a.m. to noon (12-U, 14-U) and noon to 2 p.m. (10-U).
The tryouts will take place in downtown Hughesville on Old Schoolhouse Road.

The Hughesville Softball Association will have a fall season that will consist of a combination instructional clinic and games beginning in mid-September.
Each player will have the opportunity to participate in six clinics held weekly, with games on Saturday.
The clinic will feature all aspects of the game including pitching, hitting and fielding.
Divisions for clinics and games will be Instructional (8-U), Minors (11-U) and Majors (12-U). Age is based on the 2008 season age. 14-U through 16-U will play a regular fall season without the clinic.
Registration will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13 and 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 16 at the Hughesville Firehouse. The fee is $50.
Pitching clinics will be held all winter at several area indoor facilities. They are free to all players registered in the spring or fall.
