Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008

Jerome Kenneth Curtis, 67, of Mechanicsville died Aug. 3, 2008.

Born Feb. 2, 1941, in Mechanicsville, he was the son of the late James Curtis and the late Jeanette Curtis.

He married Mary ‘‘Tinnie” Chase on July 25, 1964.

He received his education through the St. Mary’s County public school system. His love for the outdoors began as a youngster while farming with his parents. His passion and dedication to gardening were a labor of love for him. He was a very particular man when it came to his home, food and loved ones. He always planted enough fruits and vegetables to share with his family, friends and neighbors. In addition to gardening, he loved fishing. He joyfully spent quality time with his family and friends and anyone else in the community who expressed a need. During family gatherings he would dance the night away. He loved baseball and his favorite team was the Baltimore Orioles.

He worked for Tucker Fowler as a plumber’s assistant, for B. Frank Joy as a laborer and retired from Pepco in 1998 as a maintenance technician after 25 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Mary ‘‘Tinnie;” brothers Philmore and his wife, Elvie and Maurice and his wife, Janie; sister, Dorothy Young and her husband, William; brothers-in-law, James R. Stewart and his wife, Phyllis and Dennis Stewart and his wife, Wanda; sisters-in-law, Juanita Stewart, Gertrude Curtis, and Deborah Curtis; three godchildren, Deborah Thompson, Joseph ‘‘Tony” Estep Jr. and Darius Woodland; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mechanicsville. The Rev. Robert Pittman will officiate. Burial will take place at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen.

Arrangements are being handled by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall.
