The Calverton School is currently looking for coaches in the following sports: varsity field hockey, varsity boys basketball, varsity girls basketball, junior varsity boys soccer and middle school basketball and boys and girls lacrosse.

Huntingtown High will hold tryouts for the fall season on the following dates and times: Football – 8 a.m. Aug. 16; boys soccer – Informational meeting at 4 p.m. Aug. 15 and tryouts from 8 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16; girls soccer – players meeting 6:30 p.m. and tryouts from 7 to 9 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16; field hockey – 7 a.m. Aug. 16; cross country – 2:30 p.m. Aug. 16; golf – 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at Mellomar Golf Park and at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 18 and 19; dance – 3 to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 21; volleyball – 8 to 10:30 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 16.

Northern High will hold tryouts for the fall season on the following dates and times: Volleyball - Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., check-in is at 8:30 a.m.; field hockey - Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon; girls soccer - parent meeting Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. and tryouts Aug. 16 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. at Northern Middle School; boys soccer - Aug. 16 from 8 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.; football - Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. for varsity and junior varsity and Aug. 14 at 5 p.m. for freshmen; golf – meeting Aug. 15 at 3 p.m.; at Twin Shields and tryouts Aug. 16 at 8 a.m. at Mellomar Golf park; cross country - Aug. 16 from 7 to 9:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
Blues softball clinic
The Bayside Blues fastpitch softball organization is sponsoring a free softball clinic for all girls from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 16 at Northern High.
The clinics are open to girls ages 7 to 14. The clinic will focus on throwing and fielding mechanics. Instruction will be provided by current college players.

Ospreys tryouts
Tryouts for the Southern Maryland Ospreys will take place Aug. 17 at John Lancaster Park in Lexington Park.
Ten-U and 12-U tryouts will be from noon to 2 p.m. while 14, 16 and 18-U tryouts will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Shockers tryouts
The Southern Maryland Shockers, a fastpitch travel softball team will be holding tryouts from 2 to 4 p.m. (12-U, 14-U) and 4 to 6 p.m. (10-U) on Aug. 17 and 24 and from 10 a.m. to noon (12-U, 14-U) and noon to 2 p.m. (10-U) Aug. 23.
The tryouts will take place in downtown Hughesville on Old Schoolhouse Road. Those interested in trying out must try to make two of the three dates.

Baseball camps
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs professional baseball teamÊis offering four 2-day baseball camps this summer, which feature professional instruction from Blue Crabs players and coaches, an autograph session with Blue Crabs players, two tickets and on-field recognition to the game on the night the camp concludes, an in-camp home run derby and a Blue Crabs T-shirt.

Soccer goalie camps
Gretton Goalkeeping will offer its sixth annual Summer Soccer Goalkeeper Series through the week of Aug. 18.
The camps run Tuesdays through Fridays each week in the early evening hours at various locations in Southern Maryland.
All ages and skill levels welcome. Field player training offered as well by separate field player instructor.

Special Olympicssoccer practices
Special Olympics soccer will practice Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hallowing Point Park beginning Aug. 20. Practices will not be held in the rain. The fall Fest Tournament will be held Oct. 25 at Mount St. mary’s College and there will be two qualifying tournaments held beforehand. CSM Golf Classic
The College of Southern Maryland’s 17th annual foundation golf classic will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 21 at the Swan Point Yacht and Country Club in Issue.
Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start is at 9 a.m. The registration fee includes golf, lunch, dinner and a gift.

Association needsfootball officials
The Washington District Football Officials Association is seeking game officials for the 2008 season. The association provides officials for high school games in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, the Washington, D.C. public schools as well as Calvert, Charles, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Queen Anne’s and St. Mary’s counties.
