Sixty-two Charles County thespians traveled to Lincoln, Neb., for the International Thespian Festival in June.

The students represented Maurice J. McDonough, Henry E. Lackey, La Plata, Westlake and Thomas Stone high schools. They participated in numerous workshops, attended six days of theater performances and competed in individual events and scholarship competitions.

In addition, the students from McDonough performed in the regional invitational play marathon as a result of their superior rating at the Maryland State Festival. The students performed the Jonathan Rand one-act comedy, ‘‘Check, Please.” The author of the play attended the performance and spoke to the students afterward.

McDonough senior Kiefer Zickafoose was elected to be the Region 4 East Coast International Thespian officer for the 2006-07 school year. He will travel to thespian conferences and help run the international festival next June.
