George William Fox Jr., 80, Owings

George William Fox Jr., 80, of Owings died Aug. 18, 2008, at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Newport News, Va., and attended Newport News High School.

In his youth, he worked in the railroad and shipbuilding industries and later worked as a plate-maker and stereo-typer in the newspaper printing business at the Newport News Daily Press.

He married Geraldine ‘‘Gerry” Bishop on Sept. 3, 1949, and they lived in Newport News until moving to District Heights in the mid 1960s. He worked in the printing business at the Washington Evening Star, The Washington Post, and for the Wall Street Journal. He retired from the government printing office in Washington, D.C., in 1990 after 20 years of service.

He lived in Bowie for several years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2577, Bowie. He and his wife moved to Calvert County in the mid 1980s, and were members of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in North Beach.

He was active in the North Beach Seniors and also enjoyed golf, shooting pool, camping, bowling and square dancing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Vickie F. Watcher of Gambrills and her husband Donald, Catherine J. ‘‘Cathy” Vaughn of Annapolis and her husband Dick, Deborah K. Schreiner of Littleton, Colo., and her husband Tab and Cheryl Ann Owen of Chesapeake Beach; sons, George William ‘‘Bill” Fox III of Huntingtown and his wife Debbie, and Kenneth L. ‘‘Kenney” Fox of La Plata and his wife Juanita; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Holland of Suffolk, Va.; and brother, Earl Fox of Yorktown, Va.

Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in North Beach.

The Rev. David Russell officiated.

Interment was at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.

Pallbearers were Don Watcher, Dick Vaughn, Shaun Fox, Jason Vaughn, Kyle Vaughn, Nick Fox and Justin Schreiner.
