William Lewis Asmussen Jr., 68, Lexington Park

He was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Brandywine to the late William and Bessie Ellis Asmussen Sr.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and was a retired painter who loved playing Keno, cards and fishing. He also enjoyed walking Harvey, the family pet, and watching his favorite sports program.

He married Judith Asmussen on July 11, 1973.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, who died March 31, 2008.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown.

Funeral service will be held at noon.

The Rev. Garth Dockstader will officiate.

Interment will follow in Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery in Cheltenham at 2 p.m.

Pallbearers will be William Garrison, Richard Garrison, Tracey Thompson, Robert Tippett, John Trejo and Joseph Trejo.
