Woman charged with 8 burglaries

Coins among property stolen from homes

Friday, Oct. 30, 2009

A judge ordered Wednesday that a Lexington Park woman be allowed to stay at a rehabilitation halfway house as she awaits trial on charges of breaking into eight homes and stealing property.

Anita Shriver, 29, originally was arrested last July on charges from three burglaries, including two in California where detectives alleged that coins valued at thousands of dollars were reported stolen.

Detectives are continuing their investigation.

"We are always looking into [other] burglaries, to see if there's a connection," sheriff's office spokesperson Cindy Allen said Thursday at her office.

Grand jurors issued an indictment last week charging Shriver with committing burglaries last June and July at Kristina Lynn Milan Dean's home in Hollywood; Kelly Ann Thomas' home in California; Gary Robert Gateau's home at Myrtle Point; Raymond Albert Dudderar's home at Myrtle Point; Robert Harris Sterling's home in Compton; Shawn Kent Gutman's home in Hollywood; Philip Dewain Harclerode's home near Chingville; and Mark Brubacher Auker's home in Leonardtown.

The indictment alleges that Shriver stole property during each of the burglaries, valued at more than $500 during three of the incidents.

Detective R.D. McCoy filed district court charging papers last summer alleging that Shriver stole coins valued at about $4,000 from Gateau's home and five piggy banks holding coins valued at $2,455 from the home of Nicole Natalia Dibenedetto in California. The district court charges were dismissed earlier this month.

The indictment charges Shriver with stealing Deborah D. Meagher's property in the Sandgates area, described in district court papers as a wicker basket and 15 candles.

Detectives said after Shriver's arrest last summer that the thefts of the heavy loads of coins may have been aided with the use of a stroller. Initial court papers stated that local stores' security videos showed Shriver and another person loading change into Coinstar machines during the same period when the burglaries occurred.
