A Great Mills man was jailed Friday without bond on charges including attempted first-degree murder, filed by St. Mary's detectives investigating a shooting discovered when an injured man arrived last summer at St. Mary's Hospital.
Oliver Thomas Smith, 23, also was charged with first-degree assault and a handgun offense from detective Robert Merritt's investigation of the June 29 incident.
Sheriff's deputies responded shortly before 2 a.m. that day to Butler's Place bar south of Lexington Park to investigate a report of shots being fired, according to detectives. The patrol officers arrived at the bar as people and vehicles were fleeing the parking lot, detectives report, and the sheriff's office received information moments later that a man with a gunshot wound to his groin had arrived at the hospital.
He later was flown to the Prince George's Hospital Center for further treatment of his injuries.
