Josh Bayer, 8, of La Plata presents a $1,200 check to Barb Whipkey, president of Southern Maryland Animal Welfare League, during Solomons Island Family Fun day.

The $1,200 is the proceeds from sales of Josh's "M-M-Monster" book, which he wrote and illustrated to benefit animal rescue.
