A North Point High School student was charged Wednesday with punching a school bus driver, injuring the man's face, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
Around the time of the school's dismissal at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 21, the 17-year-old boy was asked to get off the bus after he reportedly refused to sit down as the driver directed, police reported. As the teen was leaving the bus in the high school parking lot, he allegedly punched the driver several times, according to police.
School administrators intervened, stopping the assault, police reported.
The driver was treated for his injuries and had to take several days off work to recover, according to Katie O'Malley-Simpson, spokeswoman for Charles County Public Schools.
The teen was charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and obstructing a school bus driver, police reported.
Officer Cusmano made the arrest.
