James Thompson Briscoe III, 80, of St. Leonard died Oct. 29, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Calvert County to the late Jeannie Parran Dawkins Briscoe and H. Clare Briscoe.
He was a life long resident of Calvert County and attended Calvert public schools.
He graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor of science degree.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan and returned home to join his father on the family farm.
He served on various local and state committees.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he served as registrar and vestry member, a member and past president of the Southern Maryland Society and vice president of the founding board of directors of The Calverton School.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Dr. Philip Briscoe and John D. Briscoe.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cassandra Parran Briscoe; daughter, Shannon Briscoe Campbell; sons, Crofton Briscoe and Parran Briscoe, all of St. Leonard; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Nov. 3 at Christ Episcopal Church in Port Republic with the Rev. John Howanstine officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Philip Briscoe, John Briscoe, Thomas Briscoe, James McNatt, Barton Ewalt and Marshall Bacot.
Inurnment followed the services in the church cemetery.
