Charles Winfred Kerns, 69, Waldorf

Charles Winfred "Pee Wee" Kerns, 69, of Waldorf died Nov. 2, 2009, at home under hospice care.

He was born June 28, 1940, in Washington, D.C., and raised in Hillside.

During his early working years, he was employed by Camalier and Buckley Leather Goods Store. He spent many years as manager of Coral Hills Liquor Store and also managed a liquor store in Forestville. On March 1, 2004, he retired from the Giant food store in District Heights. He worked for more than 35 years at the store. After his retirement, he was able to spend more time with his antique cars and traveling to car shows with his wife and friends. In his last years, he developed an interest in antique Farmall tractors and owned one. He had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed making others laugh. His friend of 63 years, Russell "Buddy" Beaver and longtime friend of 22 years, Otis Vines, enjoyed his humor. He owned seven dachshunds in more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles U. Kerns and Mary E. Crampton Kerns; and other family members. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ethel "E.T." Kerns, whom he married Feb. 4, 1971; his daughter, Lisa Lord and her husband, Donald; his stepson, Floyd Ream and his wife, Helen; his brother, Frank Kerns and his wife, Beverly; his nephew, Kenneth Kerns and his children, Katie, Frankie and Kenny; his niece, Deborah Flaherty and her son, Danny; his sisters-in-law, Leora Watson and her husband, Bill, and their three sons, and Sara Muffley and her daughter; and other family members and friends.

Service and interment were private.

Arrangements were handled by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall.
