Mamie S. Turlington, 90, of La Plata, formerly of Waldorf, died Nov. 17, 2009, at Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, La Plata.
She was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Waldorf.
Born July 17, 1919, in Mammoth, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Marshall and the late Louisa Bradshaw Spurlock.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Douglas Turlington Sr.; sisters, Mable Snezek and Willena Wade; and brothers, Charles, William and Homer Spurlock.
She is survived by her sons, James Douglas and his wife, Judy of Stafford, Va., Andrew Alden and his wife, Shirley of Annapolis and Arthur Edward and his wife, Linda of Colonial Beach, Va.; daughter, Janet Lynn and her husband, Lemuel P. Carpenter Jr. of Bryantown; grandchildren, Andrew Douglas and his wife, Christina, Amberly and her husband, Brian, Melissa and Lemuel Douglas, Scott Ward and his wife, Rachel, Traci and her husband, Jay Johnson and Erin Ward and Rebecca De Vanney; and great-grandchildren, Aiyanna, Meagan, Briella, Julia, Skylar, Justin, Taylor and Cassidy.
Visitation and prayers were held Nov. 19 at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood. The Rev. Eamon Dignan will officiate. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
