Ellen Doornekamp, 87, Solomons

Ellen Doorne-kamp, 87, of Solo-mons died peacefully Nov. 15, 2009, at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C.

She was born March 11, 1922, in the Netherlands to the late Willem Slagter and Imke Boonstra Slagter.

She was the beloved wife of the late Dennis Doornekamp, who preceded her in death in 2003.

She loved to read and knit.

Her life revolved around her family and her precious cat, Mackie.

She will always be known as a caring, generous, good-hearted person.

She is survived by her daughter, Amy and her husband John McHenry of Solomons; grandchildren, Kara and her husband Brad Sysol of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Tripp McHenry of Island Pond, Vt.; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Brandon, Lauren and Ashlyn Sysol; sibling, Saak deVries of the Netherlands; as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Rausch Funeral Home in Lusby.

Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ruth Dixon officiating.

Interment will be private.
