Man killed in Route 4 crash

A 51-year-old Huntingtown man died after being flown by helicopter from the scene of a crash at the intersection of Route 4 and Sheckells Road in Huntingtown on Wednesday.

According to a release from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, Warren Taylor Beard Jr. was making a left turn onto Route 4 in a 2008 Toyota Prius from Sheckells Road. Police said the Prius failed to yield the right of way and was hit on the driver's side by a GMC Yukon.

Beard was taken by helicopter to Prince George's Hospital, where he died of his injuries. A 14-year-old boy was a passenger in the car, and he was taken to Children's National Medical Center. The release said the boy is listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the GMC, David Matthew Law, 25, of Huntingtown was treated on the scene and released, according to the sheriff's office.

The investigation of the crash is on-going and anyone with information is asked to contact Dfc. Christopher Childress of the Crash Reconstruction Team at 410-535-2800.

Serious injuries were also reported in a separate crash at about 8 p.m. Wednesday on Ponds Wood Road. According to the sheriff's office, a 2002 Honda Accord was going east on Ponds Wood Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Willows Road. The Honda was hit by a 2003 Ford Explorer.

Tynika Nicole Rawlings, 29, of Prince Frederick, who was driving the Honda, was transported by helicopter to the Prince George's Shock Trauma Center. The driver of the Ford, Donna Marie Hilton, 54, of Chesapeake Beach, was taken by ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital. Information on their conditions was not available.

The crash is being investigated by Deputy Nicholas DeFelice.
